Crime prevention

Our activities focus on the area of crime prevention, especially regarding security consulting for municipalities and cities implementing individual crime prevention projects. It also helps with its own solution of educational and research processes with a focus on the prevention of criminal and other anti-social activities. The MBI also focuses on the Smart Cities area, where the preference for measures and security standards is also irreplaceable. Crime prevention is always better and cheaper than handeling consequential damages and shortcomings, both for potential victims and perpetrators.

Crime prevention is a set of non-repressive measures aimed at preventing crime. Specific measures may be targeted at potential offenders or victims of crime. Whether from a public or private sector perspective, it is always best to avoid crime than to try to address the risk of crime with costly security measures. Preventive measures are usually divided into three parts according to the population they target:

• • Primary prevention: These activities are aimed at the general public and special attention is paid to children and young people. The main areas where this prevention is carried out are within families, local communities and schools. Examples are leisure activities, children’s clubs, camps or sports clubs.
  • Secondary prevention: These activities target at-risk groups and individuals who are more likely to become perpetrators or victims of crime. Factors that indicate at-risk groups and individuals may be, for example, drug addiction, unemployment or poverty.
  • Tertiary prevention: These activities focus on eliminating the recurrence of individuals. In particular, it is an attempt to resocialize criminals and offer them a way to a normal life. These include retraining courses, job search and housing assistance or family and administrative counseling.

Our team handles the study of standards that are relevant from the point of view of crime prevention, such as ČSN 73 4400 – addressing safety in school facilities. We also analyze expert reports that assess the current situation of prevention at the domestic level. However, the Czech Republic does not solve the prevention of crime in a vacuum, and it is necessary for our team to focus on foreign and EU countries. We provide our knowledge in the field of crime prevention, for example, in public support programs, where our experts help in processing applications or they can participate as members of research teams.
