Digital twin of the water treatment plant for effective risk management of critical water infrastructure
International Institute for Security (Mezinárodní bezpečnostní institut or MBI) in cooperation with the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague (principal investigator), VDT Technology a.s. and the Institute for Hydrodynamics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) participates in the project, TWIN SKIN – digital twin of water treatment plant for effective risk management of critical water infrastructure. The project is planned from 1 January 2022 until 31 December 2023.
The main objective of the project is to ensure a continuous supply of high-quality drinking water to consumers through the implementation of new knowledge in the field of informatics and advanced technologies, especially in areas with an unstable (quantity and quality) source of raw water. Another objective of the project is to minimize the risk of human error in the management of critical water infrastructure (water treatment plant), which will be ensured by integrating a new principle of documentation management and its management using the so-called digital twin, which will enable the database system in object architecture to automate operational tasks and effective management of the technological line. The proposed solution will lead to minimization of the vulnerability of machine-technological units of the water treatment plant and thus to the practical elimination of unplanned shutdowns.
